no worries

i went back out to campus this morning to set up one half of the yam trellis since the vine on the north plant has nearly reached the top of the first post...as i harvest turnips i am planting cowpeas in their place...that row runs beneath the yam trellis ( yes, on purpose) so i can string a line below the one the yam vine will occupy to keep the cowpea vines up off the ground this year...while i was there i had a conversations with a few of the ground-crew who were out tending to the landscape and one told me that my asparagus had been accidentally mowed...fine...like is aid it won't kill it so there's no real harm...while i was out there i dug the hole around the snapped off spear back some more and loosened the soil to make it easier for a new spear to break through ( snapped off some more of those pesky jerusalem artichoke rouges too...they're a bit to close to some other plant's roots to dig up)...give it a week or so and the plant will be feeding the roots again...it doesn't take long for new spears to appear and reach a substantial height...the top photo is zea dipoloperennis that has reached ten inches in height ( there is another that is over a foot) the second photo is maize that is a shade over one foot...the third is northern tepehuan teosinte that has topped eighteen inches ( i am hoping for six to eight feet before the end of the season...which, incidentally is about when i'll stop posting photos of teosinte...just so you know)...the last photo is the busted asparagus...no problem that won't be overcome...more photos as the plant recovers.
