field corn

it's been ten days since i visited the corn field down the road and the corn ( dense yellow number two) has grown at least a foot in that time...the top and bottom photos are of support roots the plants are developing as they grow taller...they will become a bit thicker and woodier as time passes in an effort to keep the plant upright...the middle photos show that while the crowns of the corn plants provide an illusion of lushly dense foliage to passers-by there is actually still a lot of exposed ground ( and some weeds sprouting as well...time for farmer brown to douse the field in herbicide again soon ) in the field...i still haven't found a readily accessible soybean field to make a comparison yet...i also haven't looked at commodity futures yet this month...there may be no money in beans this year and that msy be why i am only seeing field corn and alfalfa...or, perhaps, i just need to widen my search area...someone must be growing beans.
