rainday

as you can see it has been raining quite a bit here..visibility was severely limited on the way home form campus...the rain has been rolling in off the lake since the hailstorm that beat down the garden here at home yesterday evening in a summer equivalent of lake-effect snow...i saw a gap coming on the nws radar and hightailed it out to campus to check up on its condition and get a few things done...you can see it is still there but the maize and some of the northern tepehuan teosinte were laying over (not broken fortunately) so i hilled them back upright...i also put some bird tape up over the spring wheat and broke up the roots in the bed i took the winter wheat out of to loosen and aerate the soil prior to planting rutabagas there later this month...the last photo is of standing water in my front yard under the hawthorne tree...last time i looked it was still raining and so i believe another trip out to campus is in order to keep an eye on things and do damage control if necessary...then i will need to turn my attention to the water that is doubtlessly seeping into my basement...peculiar weather...but not unheard of.
