I spent a bit of time working out a planting schedule that will start later this month on campus and in the back yard...this month will see snow peas, scarlet runner beans, dill, and teosinte (northern tepehuan and zea diploperennis) going in...april will have potatoes ( donesticated and "wild and weedy ancestors"), borage, spring wheat, parsley, kohlrabi, radishes, turnips, beets, tomatillos, and onions as well as the eastern gamagrass greening up and the intermediate wheat grass, elephant garlic, chinese yams, asparagus, and jerusalem artichokes starting...may has acorn anspaghetti squash, maize, leeks, and chamomile, june brussels sprouts, july through the end of the season will see cowpeas going as as "green manure"....august cilantro goes in...and winter wheat as a nitrogen reservoir in early october after the jerusalem artichoke harvest and the cowpeas are turned under...a full slate of plants and ancestors to have a close look at and chow down on...the apple trees are thriving under the grow light and will be outside in a couple of months...lots to do over the next few weeks by way of soil preparation...lots of composted manure to turn in and bunches of jerusalem artichokes to eat before my yard is overrun...i'm on it!
