october grasses

october finds the garden both growing and slowing down...the wheat grass strains from the land institute seem to have handled their trip and their transplanting reasonably well so far...both at home and on campus...which is goo news...the northern tepehuann teosinte has sprouted a third flower and while i am hoping for ears ( mature seeds are out of the question ) but the season is really short now and i am uncertain...last years seed ears began forming inn my backyard in august...we are late this year...even so i ordered a quarter pound of seeds sunday and will be planting numerous individuals both this fall and next spring hoping for an earlier start...the eaatern gamagrass also still has a terminal spear in full flower...the reproductive processes of these plants has been prolific this yaer...perhaps the four proaxes in their second year we the anomaly and this is the norm...if so i see why they are deemed invasive...slow but relentless ( the coach has told me that some landscape gardener on campus will one day be cursing my name...i tend to agree...unless i can find an heir to the garden )...the zea diploperennis is beginning to die back and may disappear if there is a harsh winter...my remaining stock of seed was lost in the fire so i may have to petition a paternalistic government for more seed...hopefully the will understand
