grasses and a yam

the label is something of a misnomer since the top photo is northern tepehuan tesointe which is an annual but what the heck...the next two are perennial teosinte as the bed's third season rolls along...the chinese yams have topped the one upright i put in for the trellis so i will be out again tomorrow to establish the rest of the contraption and leave them a place to vine as much as they care to...the eastern gamagrass in the bottom photo is greening nicely and i am all curiosity to see if it indulges in the sort of reproductive frenzy that marked its last season...a multitude of proaxes and an abundance of seed marked last summer and i wonder if they have as much energy this year.
