one corny week

it has only been a week since i took the top photo and as the second one shows the corn has grown enough that it is beginning to obscure the truly open nature of the field it is growing in...from the side it looks even more like the green monolith these fields are routinely mistaken for...but you can see by the photo taken down the bottom of the row that they are still as open as last week...the last two photos mark this field out a a no till field as well...if you look closely enough you can find cobs left over from the summer of 2011, the last time this was a corn field...whatever the reasons behind a spread of no till in lake and porter counties it is a positive development in terms of the costs of inputs, sustainability , and environmental impact....nothing to sneeze at.
