industrial beans

the plants in the no till bean field behind the big box stores seem to be doing just fine...no wilt...no curl...just green and photosynthesizing...they are not the pampered plants in a garden...they are not heirlooms either...gmo and products of a process that seems dubiously unnatural...as a friend of mine was wont to say, "all domesticate plants are genetically engineered by the process of artificial selection"...generations if farmer crossbreeding plants and choosing seed from plants with traits they wanted to propagate isn't natural evolution ( look at corn...it has been selected into complete dependence on human intervention )...there are quite a few drought resistant strains of domesticated plants out there but they were derived from gene flow induced by pollination, not gene splicing in a lab...these beans may not be altered to resist drought but it would seem they are resistant to atrazine...from the looks of the die-back on the weeds still poking up above the beans 9 and there do seem to be a lot fewer than there were on my last visit ) farmer brown has sprayed this field...so much for my surmise about municipal statutes...and eliminate a bunch of competition for a better yield...if this dry spell continues for any length of time i will be making more regular visits to keep tabs on the field's condition...just as a counterpoint to the plants in the gardens.
