this morning's farm report I

it's been two weeks since i had a look at the corn field by the supermarket and the corn has grown a bit and taken on the appearance of the green monolith...it looks like a solid field but ( as i never seem to tire of saying ) it isn't...if it were wheat i would allow that it was a densely planted and a crop less prone to erosion...there are still thirty inch rows down there though and even the eye level view of a row in the third photo is deceiving...hot dry weather leads to wind erosion and wet weather to runoff...this field has a wide berm by the parking lot but it slopes down towards the river on the far side...i imagine a hike is in order to find out what's over there in the way of failed berms and washouts...this will have to wait until i discover some sort of access...i am still trying to find a farmer to talk to about no till practices and why there is a dearth of spraying going on..perhaps, if i can put on a social face, i can get into a discussion about planting practices and erosion as well...five years of reading, writing, and growing plants and still nowhere near being finished...this is turning into a career
