this morning's farm report II

another early morning and a run out to the corn field south of the bean field behind the big box stores to see if the straw that went down during the no till process was having any impact on weeds...no as far as i can see...i was thinking that perhaps the straw combined with the shade the corn was producing might act to inhibit weeds...they obviously took root while the corn was till young and jsut as obviously the farmer has nor sprayed the field with herbicide...i am not disappointed that they have not but now i am wondering if they are cutting costs or if monsanto has developed a hybrid gmo frankenstein that doesn't care about weeds...that could be good or bad depending on what sort of splicing has taken place...less chemicals would be good...some sort of ferret gene in corn that is becoming hot pockets might not...the bottom photo is of a no till soy field that doesn't seem to have been sprayed at all either ( and it has had some damage from standing water...that bare spot is a result of a wet spring and early summer )...what's up with the lack of chemicals? cause for hope?
