the first day of autumn

the teosinte ears are becoming more defined and i can feel seeds forming in a few of them...now it's a race against the first frost...the plants i have earmarked for the indoor attempt to produce mature seeds have flowered and so should have ears forming soon...more on that as it progresses...after a couple of days in the sun the yema de huevos potatoes are beginning to show a greenish cast in the tendrils that are above the soil...i don't know if they will all prosper in such crowded conditions but it is better than letting them shrivel and expire...how they will fare indoors is another matter yet again in this case...aphids seem always to be an issue with "wild"plants brought in to be domestic...old cigars, a bit of dish soap and water will serve as a pesticide/repellant..we shall see...so far my central and south american friends are okay.
