a different sort of fruit tree II

now that the foliage has died back a bit i am trying to give some illustration of how convoluted the vines from the grandfatherly grape root stock back by the fence wend their way up into the elm tree at the end of the patio...those forked vines coming off the rootstock are at least an inch-and-a-half in diameter and that size does not diminish much until they are well up into the tree...stuff like this happens when you leave nature alone...i am still a bit astonished by the vine's persistence ( a word that has come up a lot in gardening recently )..it is something i could possibly have willed into existence by humorlessly training the vines to go where i wanted...but this is so much better...a found condition that is, to me anyway, simply stunning.
