gardening on the tenth of march

late winter...meteorological spring...however you want to call it, it is early in the season and, at first glance, the community garden looks fairly barren...that could be deceptive though..there's stuff going on...
frost heave has shuffled some jerusalem artichokes tot he surface where they would be happy to sprout in another month...
and in a corner of the same bed some alfalfa is greening up...
obviously some garlic went unharvested because there are a few volunteers up in two of the beds...
my real purpose in going however was to have a look under the asparagus mulch to see if anything was cooking there...there was not...which isn't surprising...however it will need to be uncovered this month anyway...possibly next weekend...
there is nothing going on with the asparagus in my back yard either...
despite somewhat warmer temperatures today...
there is still some snow lingering in the beds out back...
this has not deterred the new york imports from soaking up some sun...however...
when i walked around the north ( read shady ) side of the house to see if i could find any more ramps up and running i was stopped cold so to speak...there was no point in looking so i came in to write instead.
